We also applaud your reassurance of the Government’s continued support to high-quality Canadian television programming as well as your affirmation that “the production and distribution of Canadian content is a key component of Canada’s broadcasting system.” We remain committed to continue working with you and your Government to finding effective solutions that ensure both the independent production sector and broadcasting system can continue producing and showcasing quality Canadian programming in the years to come. In light of Shaw Communications Inc. and Vidéotron ltée’s threats to stop their required contributions to the CTF, and your meeting earlier this week with representatives of these companies as well as other major private-sector contributors to the Fund, for the sake of fairness and transparency we respectfully request a meeting with you as soon as possible to discuss the independent production sector’s perspective on the Fund’s workings and its importance to our sector. Sincerely, c.c.: The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada Judith A. LaRocque, Deputy Minister, Canadian Heritage Jean-Pierre Blais, Assistant Deputy Minister – Cultural Affairs, Canadian Heritage Members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage Konrad von Finckenstein, CRTC Chairperson CTF Board Members of the Canadian Film and Television Industry Council (CFTIC) CFTPA Board http://www.cftpa.ca/newsroom/press/PDFs/LettertoBevOdaRe_CTF_Feb-07_.pdf |
