As indicated in the guidelines of the new program Écrire au long. launched in December 2006 to support francophone feature film creators from outside Montréal or outside Quebec, four of the 10 projects for feature films selected in the first stage will move on to the second stage of the program, consisting of development assistance of $20,000 per project. “We encourage producers to get closely involved in these projects,” said Michel Pradier, Director – French Operations and Quebec Office at Telefilm Canada. “This diverse slate of feature films (romantic comedy, fantasy comedy, psychological drama) can help enrich the pool of French-language success stories.” The creation of the program Écrire au long is the result of a sustained dialogue with the Table régionale de l’Association des producteurs de films et de télévision du Québec, the Alliance des producteurs francophones du Canada and the Quebec City Film and TV Commission. As anticipated, the jury’s selections include two projects from outside Montréal and two projects from outside Quebec. The creators selected now have until August 31 to locate an eligible producer and submit a formal request to Telefilm in order to obtain a development advance of $20,000 per project. During the first stage, the creators were able to take a three-day writing workshop, and then had access to coaching from an advisor from the Institut national de l’image et du son (INIS) during the eight-week period allocated to rewriting.
