The Atlantic Film Festival Association today released an economic impact study that calculated projects initiated at the 9th Strategic Partners international film and television co-production market could generate approximately $181 million in project activity, with $62.3 million going directly into the Atlantic Canadian economy over the next four years as a result of their production. “The Association is very proud of the incredible success and impact that all our events, particularly Strategic Partners, have had on both the regional and national film and television industry,” said Gregor Ash, Executive Director. “Jan Miller and the Strategic Partners Team have created one of the industry’s best run and most effective markets and these numbers speak for themselves” The Strategic Partners market invites film producers and financers from the US, UK, Canada and annual focus countries to a 3-day event in Halifax, Nova Scotia to identify and pitch film projects. Developed to facilitate relationships, the market has a proven track record for the level of attending delegate, organization, program, quality of event and is unique in its focus on both the film and television markets. Last year’s event was attended by delegates from Canada, the UK and USA, and the 2006 focus countries; Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The 10th anniversary Strategic Partners takes place September 14-16, 2007 and this year anchor countries, the USA and UK will be joined by the focus country, France. The report, funded by ACOA, was prepared by Collins Management Consulting & Research Ltd. and its focus of attention was on the Strategic Partners event and the Atlantic Film Festival Association in general – the AFFA budget expenditures annually generate household income estimated at $1,317,900, and on gross domestic product (GDP) at $1,657,200 in Nova Scotia. This study was not able to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the economic impacts of all the Atlantic Film Festival Association events; the Atlantic Film Festival, ViewFinders: International Film Festival for Youth, alFresco filmFesto and Festival In A Van, all of which continue to grow in revenue and audience size. Full impact data will be collected for 2007 for all Association events.
