The Gemini Awards “road trip” continues with today’s announcement by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and the Province of Saskatchewan that Regina has been selected to host the 2007 awards ceremony on October 28, 2007. The announcement was made today at a Regina media conference with Academy Chair and Acting CEO Paul Gratton, Premier Lorne Calvert and Regina Mayor, Pat Fiacco. The Academy is expecting to repeat the huge success of last year’s event held in Vancouver, the first time The Gemini Awards were held outside of Toronto.

In another first, CBC Television and Global Television have agreed to join forces to broadcast The Awards. Global will kick off the evening with its signature red carpet pre-show in a special live broadcast of ET Canada At The Geminis and will be immediately followed by a live broadcast of the 2007 Gemini Awards on the full CBC Television Network.

“The timing is perfect to hold The Gemini Awards in Regina this year, ” said Gratton. “Saskatchewan’s television industry is firing on all cylinders and continues to attract major productions. You couldn’t ask for a better backdrop for an event that celebrates the best and brightest of Canada’s television industry.”

"Saskatchewan is known throughout the production industry as a great place for film and television,” said Premier Lorne Calvert “Our competitive tax credit, our abundance of natural beauty and our state-of-the-art production facilities have brought us centre stage. It is our pleasure to welcome the Gemini Awards in 2007.”

Regina’s Mayor Fiacco couldn’t agree more. “Our citizens have demonstrated this city’s ability to host high-calibre events such as the Grey Cup, the Jeux du Canada Summer Games and the Rolling Stones concert. Now as we get set to host the 2007 Gemini Awards, Reginans will roll out the welcome mat and put on an event to be remembered.”

“We’re thrilled to be bringing back the Geminis to the CBC, and to hold it in Regina where the top 2 shows in Canada are produced, is fabulous,” said Kirstine Layfield, the CBC’s Executive Director of Network Programming. “When Canadians tune in to the Geminis this fall on CBC they will be treated to an event unlike any year before.”

The enthusiasm is no less palpable at Global Television, which returns for its third year as a broadcast partner for the Gemini Awards. The 22nd Annual Gemini Awards will be held at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan.
