Toronto International Film Festival Announces Participant In First-Ever Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 06 September 2007

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFFG) is honoured to announce that Jennifer Fong has been selected to participate in the inaugural Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme. A recent graduate of the journalism program at Ryerson University in Toronto, Fong will have the opportunity to attend this year's Toronto International Film Festival, the world's largest public film festival, and cover the event as an accredited journalist with support from the Festival's Press Office. The 32nd instalment of the Festival runs September 6-15, 2007. Tickets now on sale. For more information, please visit tiff07.ca or call 416-968-FILM or 1-877-968-FILM.

Established in memory of the Toronto Star's veteran entertainment journalist Sid Adilman, the annual mentorship programme helps to develop the journalistic skills of an emerging reporter who demonstrates a strong interest in film and the arts. As this year's participant, Fong will receive a press pass, allowing for full access to Press and Industry Screenings, press conferences and red carpets. Fong will write articles and reviews on a daily basis for inclusion in The Festival Daily, blog about all things TIFF on the Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme blog at tiff07.ca, network with accredited Canadian and international journalists, and attend Festival events as assigned. The programme is made possible through philanthropic donations to the Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme endowment fund, established by the Adilman family in 2006.

About Sid Adilman

Possessing immense passion and enthusiasm for Canadian cinema and arts, Adilman built a remarkable professional career as one of the country's most prominent and influential arts and entertainment reporters. Born in Saskatoon and raised in London, Ontario, he studied at the University of Western Ontario, beginning his career as a journalist in the 1960s. Adilman was a correspondent and editor for Variety for over 20 years, prior to serving as entertainment editor with the Toronto Star. A champion of the Toronto International Film Festival even after his retirement in 2002, Adilman passed away on October 14, 2006 at the age of 68.

About Jennifer Fong

Having grown up in Toronto, Fong has attended Festival screenings ever since she was allowed to ride the subway on her own. While at Ryerson, Fong majored in the magazine stream of the journalism program, working on the summer 2007 edition of the Ryerson Review of Journalism and acting as co-editor-in-chief of McClung's magazine, Ryerson's voice for women. This summer, Fong worked as an intern at the Edmonton Journal in Alberta.

The Festival is a presentation of The Toronto International Film Festival Group (TIFFG), a charitable, not-for-profit, cultural organization whose mission is to transform the way people see the world. Its vision is to lead the world in creative and cultural discovery through the moving image.
