The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation congratulates the Nova Scotia productions being recognized with nominations for the 22nd Annual Gemini Awards. "Once again, it is great to see Nova Scotia productions honoured on the national stage," said Ann MacKenzie, CEO of the Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation. "Our local production community continually creates creative and compelling projects for television, and recognition like this shows that audiences and industry professionals are aware of the incredible talent that Nova Scotia has to offer." Halifax Film's This Hour Has 22 Minutes leads the province's nominations with four, including Best Comedy Program or Series, Best Picture Editing in a Comedy, Variety or Performing Arts Program or Series, Best Achievement in Make-Up and Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Program or Series Other drama, variety and comedy nominations include Stand Up in Kandahar, produced by Halifax's Geoff D'Eon, for best direction in a comedy program and the 2007 East Coast Music Awards for Best Performance or Host in a Variety Program or Series and Best Direction in a Variety Program or Series. Elvira Kurt was also recognized with a Best Individual Performance nomination for her stand up routine at the 2006 Halifax Comedy Festival. In the news, sports and documentary categories Cottonland, co-written and directed by Nova Scotia photographer Nance Ackerman, picked up three nods including, Best direction in a Documentary Program, Best Original Music for a Documentary Program or Series and the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program. In the lifestyle, children's and youth categories, Ziji Film and Television's documentary Generation XXL is nominated for Best Children's or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series and Children's series Johnny Test, which is animated by Halifax based Collideascope Digital Productions Ltd., has been recognized for Best Direction in a Children's or Youth Program or Series. The Gemini Awards are presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and honour exceptional achievements in Canadian English-language television. The 22nd Annual Gemini Awards Gala will take place Oct. 27, in Regina. CBC will be broadcasting the event, with Global Television hosting its signature red carpet pre-show ET Canada at The Gemini Awards. The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is a provincial Crown corporation reporting to the Minister of Economic Development. The corporation provides a wide range of programs and services to increase the capacity and competitiveness of the province's film, television and new media industries. |
