Telefilm Canada today announced that it has approved investments in six feature film projects, including two Canadian-minority coproductions, submitted during the final round of applications for fiscal 2007-08. The Corporation received 25 submissions for this round, and a total of $5.8 million was available for funding. “Our choices have gone to a diverse array of films that spans genre, suspense, romantic comedy, comedy and drama,” said Michel Pradier, Director, French Operations and Quebec Office. “I am especially pleased to see new talent in the lineup with first films,” he added. This second feature from Patrice Sauvé is based on the hit TV series of the same name. Journalist Louis-Bernard Lapointe, who has inherited the power to tell the future, travels through a parallel universe seeking “the key of the possible,” an object that opens the door to all versions of the world that might have existed. Overall, the 14 French-language features supported by Telefilm Canada this year provide the desired balance between auteur films and more commercial movies, and satisfy the Corporation’s determination to support creative continuity and first features apt to reach and touch audiences. Telefilm has allotted a total of $14 million to these 14 projects through the selective component of the Canada Feature Film Fund.
