Telefilm Canada is proud to partner with the Atlantic Film Festival (AFF) on its 27th annual edition and the 10th annual Strategic Partners, the Festival’s annual co-production conference.

The 2007 Atlantic Film Festival will screen 26 Canadian feature-length dramatic and documentary films. Of the 26 films, 17 received funding from Telefilm, including three written, directed and/or produced by Atlantic Canadians with high profile placement at the AFF as well as at the Toronto International Film Festival: Shake Hands with the Devil, Poor Boy’s Game and Just Buried.

“This year is on track to be a banner year for English-language films. From the international epic Silk to very rooted films like Shake Hands with the Devil, as well as promising works such as Poor Boy’s Game, Fugitive Pieces and Emotional Arithmetic, many of the exciting films being released in 2007-2008 are being showcased at the Atlantic Film Festival. Telefilm is proud of these films and we encourage festival goers to be among the first to enjoy them,” said Wayne Clarkson, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada.

The Atlantic Film Festival annually showcases films from the Atlantic region, across Canada and around the world. This year’s festival will screen a record-breaking 246 feature, short and documentary films over 10 days. Telefilm has been a partner of both the Atlantic Film Festival and Strategic Partners almost since their inceptions.

Gordon Whittaker, the Corporation’s Atlantic Region Director, added: “Telefilm applauds the Atlantic Film Festival’s commitment to bringing the works of Canadian artists to a growing and appreciative festival audience. A special congratulations to Strategic Partners on its 10th anniversary and its significant contribution to the Canadian film industry over the past 10 years.”

Some of the highlights at the 2007 AFF include:

  • The Telefilm Canada Gala on September 15 will feature Clement Virgo’s Poor Boy’s Game; and
  • The Script to Screen panel hosted by Telefilm on September 18 will feature a discussion of two big films to come out of Atlantic Canada this year – Poor Boy’s Game and Just Buried. The panellists will examine how a script evolves into a feature film, and the collaborative process that occurs between the writer, producer and director as the film comes to fruition.
