Telefilm Canada is once again partner with the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) for its 26th annual edition. Eighteen Canadian films with Telefilm financing will be screened as part of the Festival’s popular Canadian Images series, marking another highlight in a strong year for English and French Canadian cinema.
In addition, Telefilm is pleased to once again support Canadian producers through its participation in the Telefilm Canada International Têtes-à-Têtes, a series of co-production meetings that has become a signature event of the Festival’s Vancouver Television and Film Forum.
Of note, Kari Skogland’s The Stone Angel, based on the beloved novel by Margaret Laurence, will officially open VIFF’s Canadian Images program at a gala screening on September 28, 2007.
“Telefilm-financed films have always received a warm welcome at the Vancouver International Film Festival and this year is no exception. It’s a pleasure to see that films borne from great Canadian works of literature will bring these timeless Canadian stories to entirely new audiences,” said Executive Director Wayne Clarkson. “At the same time, Carl Bessai’s Normal and Ernie Barbarash’s They Wait – two films that reflect the harsh realities of everyday life and the evolving multicultural fabric of cities like Vancouver – are also among the superb roster of films being showcased at VIFF. Telefilm is proud of all of these films and we encourage festival-goers to be among the first to enjoy them.”
