Symphony, New Symphony Pictures Signs with IATSE PDF Print E-mail

After nearly a decade of battles, organizers from Locals 478, 600 and the IATSE secured term agreements with LA-based low budget producers Symphony Pictures and New Symphony Pictures.

The campaign with this employer began in Winston-Salem, NC in 1998 when the IATSE successfully organized the ABC Movie-Of-The-Week “Target Earth.” Over the years, the IA and its locals were successful in organizing a number of Symphony’s other productions including, “Home Of The Giants” and “Gravedancers.”

The company’s most recent production, “Warbirds” for the Sci-Fi channel, was in production Baton Rouge, LA, when, with the overwhelming support of the crew, the IA was able to insist that the company sign the term agreements rather than a single production contract, effectively ending the decade-long cat-and-mouse game.

IATSE President Thomas C. Short said, “We are pleased that we finally have been able to bring union benefits to current and future crews working for Symphony and New Symphony Pictures. The Low Budget Agreement is designed for this kind of representation and this contract is a perfect example of how the IA can help working families in all areas of film production.”
