The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television recently announced this year’s full list of nominations for the 22nd ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS. Celebrating the best in English-language television over the past year, The 22nd ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS will be broadcast from Regina at the Conexus Arts Centre on Sunday October 28th, 2007 at 8:00 pm.

GEORGE STROUMBOULOPOULOS of CBC’s contemporary late-night talk show THE HOUR will host this year’s broadcast of the Gemini Awards show. Last year, THE HOUR won the Gemini for ‘best talk series’ and Stroumboulopoulos took home the award for ‘best host in a talk program or series.’ THE HOUR is renowned for its non-conforming approach to TV. For the first time in the history of the Gemini’s, this year’s show, fronted by George, will be open to the public and feature Canadian TV fans front and centre in the audience.

"Canada is home to some of the biggest stars in the world,” says Stroumboulopoulos, “and Saskatchewan is good fun. What better way to celebrate than with a huge party in Regina?”

Bringing the excitement and anticipation direct to Canadians is the battle for THE VIEWERS CHOICE AWARD. This award celebrates the ‘Favourite Canadian on a TV series’(not eligible for a Gemini). The winner is picked entirely by the TV watching public via online balloting.

There are 22 candidates in total for the Viewers Choice Award, including stars such as (alphabetically): Alex Trebek (Jeopardy!), Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal), Kelly Rowan (The O.C.), Kiefer Sutherland (24) and Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy), among others.

Canada’s choice will be announced live on the October 28th Gemini Awards broadcast on CBC.

CBC Television is the broadcaster of the 22nd ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS. Global Television will kick off the evening with its signature red carpet pre-show in a special broadcast of ET Canada at The Gemini Awards beginning at 7:30 pm.
