ReelWorld Film Festival’s (RWFF) 2007 shorts program is an exciting programme featuring 41 short films with titles from around the world including Canada, France, Spain, the Middle East, South Africa, Ethiopia, Mexico and the West Indies. The Shorts Programme of RWFF running April 11th to 15th features 4 world premieres, 14 Canadian premieres and 20 directorial debuts.

Among the exciting shorts is Jayro Bustamante’s IT’S WHAT YOU WEAR, which starts in the ‘Fringues Fashion Shop’ where a window model striving to become human, quickly realizes the difference between her and others is not what’s inside, “It’s what you wear.” Mazi Khalighi’s FOREIGN SOIL tells the story of The Taheri family which has just landed in Canada. But their arrival starts off on the wrong foot – literally. Foreign Soil tells a heartfelt story about sacrifice, humility and shoes! Grief takes a strange turn when a woman becomes obsessed with a piece of salmon in ONCE A FISH. Ling Chiu’s sensitive and poignant tale explores death and life, where the certainty of ritual and the spontaneity of hope both have their place. A Mozambican girl is tired of her simple life in Wolfgang Muller’s ESCUDO. Lured to Johannesburg where she believes her destiny awaits, she instead faces the painful reality of prostitution and abuse. Finally, set in Ethiopia, Daniel Taye Workou’s comedy MENGED, follows a father and son who on their way to the market encounter characters that represent different schools of thought. The journey transforms the perceptions they have of each other as they travel through the picturesque Ethiopian countryside and village.

Other notable shorts include AUTUMN RETURNS, BLACK MEN AND ME, BLOOD TIES, CHICKEN SOUP, DANCE WITH DAUGHTER, DANCING WATERS, EARTH CALLING SONIA, EL OTRO LADO DEL PASILLO (ACROSS THE HALL), ELALINI, EXPLOSIONS, FIRST STORIES: TWO SPIRITED and WALKING ALONE, FORTY DAYS OF MOURNING, HEY DAY, I LOOK AT INDIANS, I LOOK AT MYSELF, INTERVIEW WITH A HOBO, LATERS, LES COULEURS DE L’AUTOMNE (AUTUMN COLOURS), L’ARBRE AUX ESPRITS (TREE OF SPIRITS), MON BEAU SOURIRE (MY BEAUTIFUL SMILE), OFFSIDE, RITCH, SELECTIONS FROM THE F.COUNTER, SCREEN TEST, SLEEPING DOGS LIE, SPLIT PERSONALITY, THE LAST CLIENT, THE PEACE TREE, THE REAL WOMAN, WABAK, WATCHING MIKEY and ZONA CERO (FLAT POINT).
