The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is pleased to announce the nominations for the 22nd annual Gemini Awards, recognizing the year’s best in Canadian English-language television. The Gemini Awards Gala will be presented in Regina for the first time at the Conexus Arts Centre on October 28th, 2007. CBC Television joins the Academy as the broadcaster to celebrate this year’s outstanding achievements. Global will kick off the evening with its signature red carpet pre-show in a special broadcast of ET Canada at The Gemini Awards.
"This year represents an outstanding year in Canadian elevision,” said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy of Canadian
Cinema & Television. “The nominations, in all categories truly xemplify the unparalleled talent within our borders. The Gemini wards are proud to showcase and celebrate these successes.”
Canadian drama leads the 2007 Gemini Award nominations with lings & Arrows, Season III receiving 14 nominations followed by eGenesis with 12 nominations. Dramatic series Intelligence and ews information series, the fifth estate, tied for 11 nominations each while Dragon Boys weighed in with 9 nominations. The TV movie, Doomstown and dramatic series, Robson Arms, Season II tied for 7 nominations each.
Other notables include 6 nominations each for comedic series, Corner Gas, dramatic mini series, Answered by Fire and performing arts program, Roxana; TV movies, Shades of Black, In God’s Country and The Robber Bride all scored 5 nominations each.
The Canadian industry will gather in Toronto at The Liberty Grand on October 15th, 16th and 17th to honour and celebrate the News, Documentary and Sports Awards, the Lifestyle, Children’s and Youth Awards and the Drama, Comedy and Variety Awards
