Telefilm Canada, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is proud to announce that three Canadian films will be in the spotlight during the 2007 edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. L’Âge des ténèbres, the highly anticipated conclusion to Denys Arcand’s trilogy, has been chosen as the closing film of the Official Selection, while the Canada-Belgium-France co-production Voleurs de chevaux, by Micha Wald, and the animated short Madame Tutli-Putli, by Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, will both be screened during International Critics’ Week. Timothy W. Casgrain appointed Chair of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Board

The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Timothy W. Casgrain, as Chairman of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

B.C. man costs investors millions with fraudulent investment schemes

The British Columbia Securities Commission has found that a White Rock man contravened numerous sections of the Securities Act while promoting two investment schemes to people in Canada and other countries.Between January 2000 and November 2004, Brian David Anderson contravened the Securities Act while promoting two investments, Frontier Assets and the Alpha Program. A commission panel ruled that Anderson perpetrated a fraud, made misrepresentations, and distributed securities illegally in his efforts to promote these investments.

IATSE Demands NBC Discipline “Law & Order” Producer

For the third time in as many years, the IATSE has asked NBC Universal Television to investigate continued complaints of racist and sexist remarks and antagonistic behavior from “Law & Order: SVU” Executive Producer Ted Kotcheff. According to the IA, several complaints from members of both Local 52 and Local 600 have come into their offices, prompting the International’s legal firm, Spivak-Lipton, to seek redress from NBC-Universal.

Avid Reports First Quarter 2007 Results

Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today reported revenues of $218.9 million for the three-month period ended March 31, 2007 compared to $218.1 million for the same period in 2006. GAAP net income for the quarter was $20,000, or $.00 per diluted share compared to GAAP net income of $3.3 million, or $.08 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2006.

At the event, management will illustrate the significant, long-term macro-economic trends that drive the company’s business as well as its industry-leading execution and outstanding competitive position. In anticipation of the meeting, the company is providing an update on its financial guidance for the first quarter of fiscal 2008. With less than one week remaining in the first quarter of fiscal 2008, management indicates first quarter revenue will be at the high end, or slightly above, the previously issued revenue guidance range of $490 million to $500 million.
